Cloud computing for business

What is cloud computing?

The internet is changing the way we do business. Before cloud computing, hardware and software is fully contained on a user’s computer which limits access your data and programs exclusively within your own computer.

With new technologies ‘Cloud Systems’ allows you to access your data and programs outside of your own computing environment. Rather than keeping your data and apps on your devices or server, it is stored in ‘the cloud system’. This could include applications, databases, email and file services.

There are 3 types of cloud systems.

Public Cloud:

Cloud providers like Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud manage the infrastructure and platforms that run the applications.

Private Cloud:

You or your 3rd party providers manage cloud in your defined premises. This solution is costly but effective if you need higher degree of security or have sensitive data requirements.

Hybrid Clouds:

Public clouds not only provides computing & storage services but also many other important pre ready solutions for example mail servers, geo scalability, service bus(used for message processing by your IT department). You can keep sensitive data in your private cloud and for less secure data you can use public clouds.

How cloud computing works?

There are 3 main types or models of cloud computing

Software as a service(SaaS):

SaaS is most commonly used for small businesses. You can use internet-hosted applications using browser. This does lift a burden of many IT resources from a company.

Cloud providers patch, maintain and secure your IT environment for you.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS):

IaaS means renting computing power or disk space from cloud providers for you IT needs. This option allow you access through a secure private network or over the internet.

Platform as a Service (PaaS):

PaaS is a combination of IaaS & SaaS. You can rent the hardware, OS, Disk storage and network couple with pre-configured software, app & other type of servers like mail.

What are the benefits of cloud computing?

Cloud computing is essentially your IT virtual office it gives you flexibility to connect to your business any time any where using web based interface or secure private network channel. There are many benefits of cloud computing few are listed below

  • No upgrade, maintenance & security costs
Scalability:

You need new hardware for your business software just set some settings and click boom… Its ready. Not only you can scale up you can also scale down easily. Intelligent cloud system like Microsoft Azure also automatic feature to do that to save cost.

Security:

Most people think that cloud is not secure. 90% of fortune 500 companies use cloud to store their data. Security experts at cloud providers make sure no one touches your data even them after all there is no cloud system if there is no trust.

Even for small business it is very important to recover data in case of any failure either its small or natural disaster. Cloud system back ups your data not only in one region but also in other region for recovery.
